Stimulus Package 1 - Free Book: The Truth About You Here’s a stimulus package to get you thinking. It’s a package designed to serve as a catalyst to help you to find ways to make things work and get things done. While you might think of it as a piece of good fortune, don’t think of it as a bailout. You’ve still got to do the inside work.
In partnership with Thomas Nelson Publishers, we are giving away five copies of The Truth About You by Marcus Buckingham. The Truth About You focuses on how you set your career up right—how do you start in such a way that you can push the world toward the best of you; learning to express the best of who you are. It incorporates a candid 20-minute enhanced DVD (a reworking of the effective Trombone Player Wanted film); an interactive book, which takes up where the film leaves off; and a reMemo Pad, a way of using the raw material of your week to clearly identify your strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great gift for any young person to help clarify their direction and find meaning in life. For a chance to get a copy, leave a comment on this post and we will randomly select five recipients on Friday, December 5, 2008. Related Interest: UPDATE: Five respondents have been chosen at random. Thanks for participating.

I recently opened a blog site on Barack Obama's page with the title Leadership/Management. Given the historic nature of this moment with less then 60 days before a major transition in Leadership occurs; I am hopeful we can re-ignite the subject of Leadership/Management. Below is my first posting. My hope is to inspire.
Now is a time to reflect on the subject of Leadership/Management. Governance will require both. It is clear that our crisis today is a direct result of a failure of both. Few organization other then the United States Military actually take the subject of Leadership seriously. However, we can't move forward without it. It has been said that "management is doing things right and leadership is doing the right things." Ultimately, a successful transition will depend on people who can do both things right and do the right things. Therefore, it is critical that the subject of Leadership/Management be reflected on.
Leadership: Vision, Responsibility, Trust, and Communications.
Vision: Where do you want to go and how are you going to get there. Responsibility: Taking ownership for Reality. Trust: Having faith in people and receiving it back. (hard to earn and easy to lose) Communications: Sharing the truth successfully and receiving it back. (learn to listen and listen to learn)
Management: Processes to organize and improve. Make things better.

I just saw Trombone Player Wanted this past summer. This is a good reminder of those lessons, and quite timely too. This book sounds interesting, especially for a near-college-grad like myself.

I like Marcus Buckingham's writings and am torn a little bit because it suggests determinism to me vice free will to make coices in the present moment. If I am accountable for the results in my life, and who I am is already defined, how does the theories that Marcus Buckingham is a proponent integrate with the ability to make positive changes in who I am.

Hmm, looks like a great book.
I would love to read it - free or not free!
At this hour of eerie silence down here in India due to the chilling ordeal of 72 hours, I stand up and salute those heroes of NSG and Police who laid their lives to protect the people of this country.

Thanks for great offer. I read many Buckingham books and they are all great. It made me think about strengths and what are they in reality - not things I do well and rather what gives me energy. I am sure I will read this book in future.

I wrote something a few days ago, but it didn't show up. I've been perusing this blog now for roughly 18 months. I've found the leadership quotes to be quite useful and the book recommendations/reviews to also be of value. Thank you for everything. God bless you!

I just discovered this blog on leadership and found that it contains excellent information on leadership.
I have read articles & books by Marcus Buckingham and also attended a conferences where he spoke. Buckingham's book (First, Break All the Rules"), coupled with books by Tim Sanders ("Love Is The Killer App") and Steve Sample, President of USC ("Contrarian's Guide To Leadership") resulted in life changing experiences for me.
Therefore, I suspect that Buckingham's book on "The Truth About You" should be a great and life changing asset.
