Leadership matters now more then ever because leaders empower everyone with a consciousness of the reality and opportunity of the moment. A leader listens and tries to keep learning and asks the right questions. More importantly, they empower everyone with their faith in people and their belief in everyone's potential for betterment. Leaders raise the emotional intelligence of the room and leaders share their passion, humility, grace, and equanimity with others. Leaders demonstrate real respect for people. Leaders offer encouragement, solicit advice, and make decisions to effect a better result cognizant that there is no single right answer, just better questions so they measure the results and work to make better decision next time. Every parent, teacher or coach is a potential leader and has demonstrated moments of leadership. We are all potential leaders. Now, more then ever though, we need sustained leadership. It will only come from demonstrative efforts: read a great poem or book (ie Grapes of Wrath) and really try to grasp what is being shared, ask a question without knowing the answer already, ask for an opinion or advise from someone you really respect without judging their answer, watch a quality movie (Its a Wonderful Life) and try to understand its real meaning.
