First, Take a Look at Yourself![]() When things aren't going right we tend to look around for the cause of the problem and blame others. What we should be doing is looking at ourselves. One skunk's Ah-Ha experience: "I always thought they didn't want me around because I was a skunk, well...you know it turns out they didn't want me around because I was a jerk."

Ha! What a great quote. Self-awareness is sorely lacking today.

I heard Marcus Buckingham say something last fall at Catalyst Conference that I will never forget. He said, "Every problem is a management problem."
It is too easy to blame a problem on others or ignore a problem and hope it goes away. Leaders step up and take responsibility not only for the problem but also for the solution to the problem.
This isn't easy. It means checking your pride at the door. It means being courageous. It means being a leader.
