Description and Reviews
From The Publisher:
Not even the most inexperienced golfer would play using only one kind of club. Nor should leaders aim for a foolish consistency using a single leaderhsip style, say the authors of this compelling volume. In this newly revised and expanded edition of The Leader's Window, John Beck and Neil Yeager offer a proven and highly practical method for leading teams. The road-tested L4 leadership system pioneered by the authors has been used effectively in thousands of companies worldwide.
High-performance teamwork is the end result of leading individuals on the team in unique ways according to who they are and what they are being asked to do, while responding to team dynamics. Illustrating in detail how to use the power of the group to enhance individual contributions--and vice versa--Beck and Yeager present straightforward guidelines to help managers coach their teams to top-of-the-line results.
Bringing to life successful leadership styles, the book uses as examples such high-profile leaders as Warren Buffet, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, and more, along with TV leaders from Star Trek, Friends, M*A*S*H, and The West Wing.
Designed for supervisors, managers, executives, and leaders at every level who need powerful team results, The Leader's Window includes performance contracts, flow charts, assessment tools, and other practical aids to put dynamic leadership into action immediately.
The 1st edition of The Leader's Window was a natural outgrowth of our L4 System training and consulting with leaders from organizations of all sizes. Hearing their stories about their best and worst managers taught us unique conclusions about leadership that couldn't be found anywhere else. Participants in our training programs applauded, trainers wanted to be certified, and they all wanted to know how they could learn more about the Leader's Window--the endpoint of the system.
This 2nd edition also emerged from our work. Our firm, Charter Oak, has a close relationship with the Franklin Covey organization prompting questions about the linkages between The Leader's Window and The 7 Habits. The new Window connects to all 7. Most of our clients use the MBTI (r) instrument prompting questions about the relationship between types and styles. The new book explains how to use personality preferences when leading individuals and teams. We also updated the cases that bring the book to life--vignettes about political, business, sports, and entertainment leaders who illustrate our ideas and countless stories about real people who have put the Window into action.
We use the book to help training participants apply the system to their jobs. We also use it to help managers we coach learn about their leadership styles, the impact of their behavior on people, how to empower the individuals who work with them, or ways to make teams produce exceptional results. Many internal and external consultants also use the book for training or coaching.
